Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited (KenGen) is the leading electric power producer in Kenya. In the recent past, the company has embarked on a transformation program aimed at accelerating the expansion of its generation capacity and stabilizing the power situation in the country.

In order to sustain this process, KenGen is seeking to recruit professionals in Corporate Affairs and Community Liaison to coordinate various activities within the organisation.

Senior Corporate Affairs Officer (Media Relations)

Based in Nairobi and reporting to the Corporate Affairs Manager, the ideal candidate should possess strong written and communication skills and ability to deal with both local and international media.

He/she must have worked in a public relations set-up involving relations with local and international media. Senior business writers/editors will be considered.

The
job

Key responsibilities include undertaking delivery of KenGen external and internal communications through print, electronic, and social media.

The
job will entail drafting press releases, responding to media enquiries, building dialogue with media players, ensuring media coverage of KenGen activities and concerns, preparing speeches for company executives, editing and production of in-house publications, coordination and implementation of external communications, day-to-day management of the KenGen website, including updating and monitoring, sourcing articles and images for various company publications and monitoring media coverage of the company.

The person

Ideal candidate should be a holder of Bachelors Degree in Public Relations or Communications or other social sciences preferably with a postgraduate diploma in Journalism and five (5) years experience in handling corporate communications in a dynamic environment. Senior business writers with the above qualifications will be considered.

Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Officer

Based in one of our outer stations and project area and reporting to the Corporate Affairs Manager, the ideal candidate should be a talented and socially responsible individual with experience in handling communications and community relations in a project development set-up.

Key responsibilities include, responding to community enquiries, requests, and complaints, liaising between the company and the community in resolving conflicts, fostering cordial community relations and expounding company policies on various issues.

The
job will also entail generation of corporate reports and publications, organizing company events, generating news and news releases in relation to company activities, developing a feedback mechanism for all stakeholders, identifying, developing and implementing community-based CSR programmes, enlisting the co-operation of all stakeholders in company project activities, raising public awareness of company activities and planning and organizing facility visits for VIP guests, members of the public and school parties.

The
job will also involve production of giveaway materials and information packages, planning and coordinating company’s social events, and encouraging community participation in
environmental and social activities.

The person

The ideal candidate should be a holder of Bachelors Degree in Public Relations or Communication with a postgraduate diploma and having three (3) years’ experience in handling public relations and communications in a dynamic environment.

The candidate should also have worked in a major project implementation environment. Proficiency in MS Office with proof of ability to use desktop publishing is mandatory. The
job holder will be required to self drive.

Community Liaison Officer (Geothermal Projects)

Based in Naivasha and reporting to Chief Environment, Safety, Quality and Liaison Officer, the ideal candidate should be a talented and socially responsible individual who has experience in handling and addressing community and project development issues.

Key responsibilities include receiving and processing community requests on CSR related issues, providing liaison between the company and the community, coordinating relations with local community committees, facilitating identification of candidates for the annual scholarship awards and promoting inter-community peace building initiatives as well as building community awareness on environmental conservation.

He/she will also be expected to produce reports and write-ups for various activities in the project area

The person

Ideal candidate should be a holder of a degree in social sciences with a bias in Community Development, and a minimum experience of three (3) years in handling community development issues within a project set up.

He/She must be able to adopt in a dynamic environment that includes the responsibility for providing translation/interpretations of information that directly impact on key projects activities, local community(s) and other stake holders. Proficiency in MS Office with proof of ability to use desktop publishing is mandatory.

The
job holder will be required to self drive and must be a good communicator.
